This museum recounts the origins of Montreal and of the Hôtel-Dieu through the medical practices of the time and the mission of the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph of caring for the sick. Furniture, paintings, sculptures, photographs, archival documents and medical devices bear witness to this rich history.
It explores the beginnings of Montreal and the Hotel-Dieu, founded by Jeanne Mance; the arrival in 1659 of the Hospitallers of Saint-Joseph, an order of nursing sisters; and the evolution of medicine and nursing. Discover artifacts and art and medical objects bearing testament to another era. Guided tours of the garden and the Chapel of the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph are available on certain dates during the summer.
